Superintendent's Office,
Nelson, 11th February 1871.

IT is hereby notified, that it is intended, after the expiration of Two Months from the date hereof, to grant a Lease for Gold-Mining Purposes of the Crown Land within the District of the Nelson South-west Goldfields, hereinafter described, viz:β€”

  1. A Block of Land, containing Three Acres, more or less, situated at Candlelight Flat, Charleston. Applied for by HENRY CULLIFORD and others.

NOTICE is hereby given, that I have transferred the Protection granted to THOMAS BRADLEY, for the right of Ferrying across Fox's River, and published in the Nelson Government Gazette, No. 31, of the 15th October, 1870, to JOHN GRANT.

JOHN MOLLOY is hereby authorised, under the Provisions of Section XIII of "The Goldfields Act, 1866," to keep a Ferry Boat on the Totara River, and charge tolls, from the 1st January until the 31st December, 1871, as per schedule, on the following conditions:β€”

  1. That a competent Ferryman be always in attendance, with a good safe boat and proper rope for crossing horses.
  2. That all Government Officers, including road overseers, laborers, and postmen, when on duty, shall be ferried across the said river free of charge.

This protection shall not be transferred without the sanction of the Superintendent.

The Warden of the district shall, on being satisfied that the Ferry service is not being conducted in a proper and efficient manner, and in accordance with the above conditions, have power to suspend the operation of this protection until the matter of complaint be removed.
