NELSON GOVERNMENT GAZETTE.

Superintendent's Office,
Nelson, 8th June, 1871.

LICENSES to Shoot Pheasants within the Districts of Riwaka, Motueka, Pangatotara, Upper and Lower Moutere, during the month of July next, will be issued at this Office on and after MONDAY, the 19th instant.

Any person wishing to take out a License under the Provisions of "The Protection of Animals Act Amendment Act, 1868," to Shoot Pheasants on land in his occupation, must forward to this Office a description of the boundaries of such land before such License can be issued.

IT is hereby notified, for general information, that the undermentioned Gentlemen have been appointed a COMMITTEE for the MANAGEMENT of the NELSON HOSPITAL, in compliance with the Provisions of Clause 2 of "The Nelson Hospital Act, 1871":—

THE SUPERINTENDENT directs it to be notified, that by the Harbor and Quarantine Regulations, for the Ports of New Zealand, every person who shall be in charge of any Vessel or Boat, whether decked or undecked, plying for Hire in any part of the Colony, shall obtain from the Superintendent of the Province, in which the Vessel or Boat is intended to ply, a license to ply for Hire, and every Boat used for the purpose of carrying Passengers, Cargo, Ballast, or Water Tanks, must also be duly Licensed.

The SUPERINTENDENT also directs it to be notified that he has appointed

JAMES S. CROSS, HARBOR-MASTER, and
JAMES P. LOW, SECOND PILOT,

to be Inspectors of Boats for the Port of Nelson;
and

SAMUEL A. LEECH, and
EDWARD ALBERT LABATT,

to be Inspectors of Boats for the Port of Westport;
and no License can be issued for any Boat until a Certificate from the Inspectors has been granted.

IN accordance with the Provisions of "The Marine Act, 1867," and the Harbor and Quarantine Regulations for the Ports of New Zealand, I, OSWALD CURTIS, Superintendent of the Province of Nelson, hereby fix the undermentioned FEES for Licenses to be paid by Watermen, Masters, Boatmen, and others employed in working Boats, plying for Hire at the Ports of Nelson and Westport; and also the FARES to be charged by Licensed Watermen in Licensed Passenger Boats, at the said Ports, on and after the 1st day of July next, viz:—

LICENSE FEES:
Waterman's or Boatman's License... 0 10 0
Passenger Boats ... ... ... each 0 10 0
Cargo, Ballast, or Water Tank Boats ... each 1 0 0

FARES:
Port of Nelson.
For each adult passenger to or from the undermentioned places:—

Government Wharf or Boat Landing, and any vessel at anchor inside the Harbor... 0 1 0
Government Wharf or Boat Landing, and any portion of the Boulder Bank, from Haul-Ashoro Island to a quarter of a mile beyond the Lighthouse, inside the Harbor... 0 1 0
Government Wharf or Boat Landing and Bolton Hole ... ... ... ... 0 4 0
If more than one Passenger, each ... 0 2 6
Government Wharf or Boat Landing and Outer Anchorage, or usual anchorage, Waimea river ... ... ... ... 0 6 0
If more than one Passenger, each ... 0 3 0
For Children between the ages of two and twelve, half the above rates only to be charged. Children under two years of age free.
Any person or persons requiring a crew of four men, shall be liable to pay treble fares.
Whenever a Black Ball is hoisted by the Harbor-Master at the Government Wharf, double fares may be charged to and from Bolton Hole, the Outer Anchorage, and the usual anchorage, Waimea river, while such flag is flying; and double fares may be charged between sunset and sunrise to and from any of the places above-mentioned.
Any person desirous of returning by a boat which he has engaged, may detain such boat for fifteen minutes, and no longer, without incurring an extra charge; and any person detaining a boat over fifteen minutes shall pay One shilling, and a further sum of Ono shilling for every additional quarter of an hour such boat shall be detained.

Port of Westport.
For each adult passenger to or from the undermentioned places:—

Westport and Packer's Point ... ... 0 1 0
" " South Spit ... ... 0 1 0
" " Waite's Landing ... ... 0 2 6
" " any Vessel not more than half-way across the river ... ... ... 0 0 6
For Children between the ages of two and twelve, half the above rates only to be charged; Children under two years of age free.
Double fares may be charged from Eight p.m. to Six a.m., and whenever the Black Ball is at the Masthead of the Waterman's Signal-staff.
Fares as per agreement, and Waterman not obliged to ply when Black Ball is half-mast on Waterman's Signal-staff.
