THE SUPERINTENDENT directs it to be notified that in accordance with the provisions of Section 9, of the "Education Act, 1863," he has appointed SATURDAY, the Fifth day of MARCH next, at Twelve o'clock Noon, for the election of three persons to fill the vacancies in the Local Committee of Education for the District of Westport, and that the Election shall be held at the Court-House, Westport.

IT is hereby notified that the Superintendent has refused to grant a Gold-Mining Lease of the

Block of Land hereinafter described, applied for by James Wylde, viz.:—

A Block of Land containing Ten Acres, situated North of Geordie's Terrace Sluicing Company's Leased Ground, near Point Elizabeth.

The Nelson Provincial Council Buildings (depicted) were constructed beginning with the laying of the foundation stone on 26 August 1859, with the first Council meeting held there on 30 April 1861.

The buildings served Nelson for over a century before being demolished on 12 September 1969.
