All Public Notifications which appear in this Gazette, with any Official Signature thereunto annexed, are to be considered as Official Communications made to those Persons to whom they may relate, and are to be obeyed accordingly.

PROCLAMATION.

By His Honor OSWALD CURTIS, Esquire, Superintendent of the Province of Nelson, in the Islands of New Zealand, &c.

WHEREAS, by an Act passed by the Superintendent and Provincial Council of the Province of Nelson, in Session VII, No. 1, intituled, "An Act to provide for the Protection of Bridle Roads," it is enacted that it shall be lawful for the Superintendent of the said Province, from time to time, by Proclamation in the Government Gazette for the said Province, to proclaim any Bridle Road or Roads, or any portion thereof, situated within the said Province, to come under the Provisions of the said Act :

And whereas it is considered expedient to proclaim and declare a certain portion of the Bridle Road, known as the Pelorus Road, to come under the provisions of the said Act :

Now, therefore, I, the Superintendent of the said Province of Nelson, do hereby proclaim and declare all that portion of the Bridle Road, known as the Pelorus Road, from the Heringa Bridge to Dwyer's Accommodation House, near the junction of the north and south branches of the Maitai, to come under the provisions of "The Bridle Roads Protection Act, 1860," on and after the 5th day of August next.

Given under my hand, and issued under the Public Seal of the Province at Nelson, this Twenty-ninth day of July, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-seven.

The Nelson Provincial Council Buildings (depicted) were constructed beginning with the laying of the foundation stone on 26 August 1859, with the first Council meeting held there on 30 April 1861.

The buildings served Nelson for over a century before being demolished on 12 September 1969.
