Previous to granting a certificate or permit to introduce sheep into the Province of Nelson, it will be the duty of the Inspector to see that such sheep be thoroughly dipped, once if drafted from a clean flock, and if from an infected flock, twice, at an interval of not less than nine or more than twelve days in a decoction of tobacco and sulphur, and in no instance shall the sheep be allowed to cross a river until two clear days after they have been dipped.

The Inspector shall charge a mileage fee of one shilling per mile one way, for the distance travelled for the purpose of inspecting sheep in the Province of Marlborough: provided always, that if whilst so travelling the Inspector can attend to more than one application, a proportionate mileage only shall be charged to each flock-owner.

When the mileage and inspecting fees have been paid, and the sheep thoroughly and satisfactorily dipped, as before provided, the Inspector shall grant a certificate in the form of Schedule F, which certificate shall be produced to the Inspector at the boundary of the province, or district within the Province of Nelson, who shall on being satisfied that such sheep are clean, grant a certificate in the form of Schedule A.
Strength of Dip.
- The dip shall be a decoction of tobacco and sulphur—1 lb. of the best tobacco, and 1 lb. of sulphur, to the 4 gallons of water; and any dip of less strength than the above shall be deemed insufficient.
