✨ Hospital report and statistics

south side of the Hospital, providing bed space for 20 male patients, the present building being retained for females and the administrative department of the Hospital. We may mention that experience has shown that a ward containing this number of beds can be most economically worked, as regards fire, servants, night nurses, and other details. We have placed in the hands of the Provincial Engineer the last edition of Miss Nightingale's work on the construction of Hospitals, and the annexed plan and specifications prepared by him, are in accordance with the principles there laid down.

The Nelson Provincial Council Buildings (depicted) were constructed beginning with the laying of the foundation stone on 26 August 1859, with the first Council meeting held there on 30 April 1861.

The buildings served Nelson for over a century before being demolished on 12 September 1969.
