HIS Honor the Superintendent directs the publication of the following Extract from the Southland Provincial Government Gazette, for general information.

PROCLAMATION
By JAMES A. R. MENZIES, Esq., Superintendent of the Province of Southland.
WHEREAS His Excellency the Governor in Council has been pleased to delegate to the Superintendent of the Province of Southland certain powers under the "Diseased Cattle Act, 1861," and whereas by proclamations dated on the 10th and 26th days December, 1861, respectively, published in the Southland Provincial Government Gazette it is amongst other things declared that the Inspector of Cattle in the Province of Southland, under the provisions of the said Act, shall not be authorised to grant a certificate to land in the Province of Southland cattle coming from Tasmania; and whereas it is expedient to revoke this provision and make other provision in lieu thereof;
Now, therefore, I, the said Superintendent, in virtue of the power in me vested, do hereby proclaim that the Inspector of Cattle is hereby authorised to grant certificates to land in the Province of Southland, cattle coming from Tasmania; always provided that such cattle shall be free from the disease called Pleuropneumonia, and that the owner or person in charge of such cattle shall have previously given to such Inspector satisfaction proof that the cattle sought to be landed were bred in Tasmania; or were depastured in Tasmania for six consecutive months prior to their last embarkation from thence.
