PROCLAMATION.

By His Honor Edward William Stafford, Esquire, Superintendent of the Province of Nelson, in the Islands of New Zealand, &c., &c.

WHEREAS, by an Ordinance passed by the Superintendent and Provincial Council of the Province of Nelson, in Session II., No. 5, intituled “An Ordinance to provide for the Protection of Roads,” it is enacted that the provisions of the third clause of that Ordinance shall come into operation in such Towns and Villages or Districts as may from time to time be proclaimed for that purpose by the Superintendent of the Province, with the advice and consent of his Executive Council, from and after the publication of such Proclamation in the Government Gazette:

Now therefore, I, the Superintendent of the Province of Nelson, with the advice and consent of the Executive Council thereof, pursuant to the authority in me vested in that behalf, do hereby proclaim and declare that the third clause of the said recited Ordinance shall come into operation in the following Districts, from and after the publication hereof, viz.:

The Hundred of Waimea West, bounded on the north by the Waimea West Mud Flat; on the east by the Waimen River from the north-east corner of Section No. 2, Waimea West, to Section No. 126, Waimea West; and thence by the Waititi river to West, and thence by the Waititi river to the Section No. 113, Waimea South; on the south thence by the northern boundary of the Hundred of Waititi from the Waititi river to Section No. 189, Moutere; and on the west thence by a line for three-and-a-half miles to the south-west side of Section No. 97, Moutere, and thence by the road through Sections Nos. 97, 191, and 192, and along the Mud Flat to where the northern boundary commences.

Given under my hand at Nelson, this Fifth day of February, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty-six.

Nelson, 31st January, 1856.

SIR,—I have the honor, by direction of His Excellency the Governor, to transmit for your information the accompanying Letter from the Honorable the Colonial Secretary conveying the thanks of the Royal Commissioners for the official assistance rendered by you in New Zealand in carrying into effect her Majesty’s gracious intentions regarding the Maori’s War Annuity Fund.

His Excellency would feel obliged if your Honor would convey to the Provincial Government signified in New Zealand the acknowledgment of Her Majesty’s Government.
