PROCLAMATION.

By his Honor ARTHUR PENROSE SEYMOUR, Esquire, Superintendent of the Province of Marlborough, in the Colony of New Zealand.

WHEREAS by “The Hawke’s Bay and Marlborough Rivers Act, 1868” (hereinafter referred to as the said Act), and “The Hawke’s Bay and Marlborough Rivers Acts Amendment Act, 1872,” it is enacted that upon the petition of the owners or occupiers of not less than three-fourths of the annual value of the rateable property, as in the said Act provided, of any district defined in such petition, any part of the Province intersected or bounded by any river from the overflow of which damage may be apprehended, the Superintendent shall, by proclamation in the Provincial Gazette, declare that the said Act shall come into operation within such part of the Province; and shall also by such proclamation define the boundaries of the same, and declare the same to be a District under the said Act, and shall also fix the name by which such District shall be known, and also in such proclamation shall determine the number of Conservators of which the Board for such District shall consist, but in no case shall the number be less than five nor more than seven:

And whereas the petition of the owners or occupiers of three-fourths of the annual value of the rateable property, as in the said Act provided, within the District hereinafter described has been received by me: And whereas damage from the overflow of the river Opawa, bounding the said District is apprehended:

Now, therefore, I, ARTHUR PENROSE SEYMOUR, Superintendent of the Province of Marlborough, do hereby proclaim and declare that “The Hawke’s Bay and Marlborough Rivers Act, 1868,” shall come into operation within that part of the Province of Marlborough which is situated within the boundaries hereinafter set forth, and do further proclaim and declare the same to be a District under the said Act, to be known as “The Spring Creek District,” and that the number of Conservators to form the Board for such District shall be Five:---

THE SPRING CREEK DISTRICT.

Bounded towards the West, North, and East by the river Wairau from the separation of the rivers Wairau and Opawa to the North-eastern end of the road between Sections 28 and 32, Wairau West; thence towards the South-east by that line of road to the Southern corner of Section 30; thence towards the South-west by a road between Sections 30 and 29 to the Northern corner of Section 29; thence by the North-western boundary of Section 29 to Section 33; thence by the boundary line between Sections 33 and 29 to the river Opawa; thence by a line along the centre of that river to the Western corner of Section 37, Wairau West; thence by a line along the centre of the new channel of the river Opawa to the South-western corner of Section 85, Wairau West; thence by a line along the centre of the old channel of the river Opawa to the river Wairau at the first-named point.

Given under my hand, and issued under the Public Seal of the Province of Marlborough, at Blenheim, this Twenty-fifth day of March, One thousand eight hundred and seventy-four.

IN accordance with Clause 58 of “The Marlborough Waste Lands Act, 1867,” it is hereby notified that the undermentioned LANDS have been RESERVED from PUBLIC SALE under Clause 56 of the said Act:—

District of Havelock Suburban—Section 63. District of Mahakipawa (Suburban)—Section 52. District of Pelorus Sound Tennyson Inlet—Sections 134, 138, 139, 140.
