Provincial Election Proclamations




Superintendent of any Province the power of appointing and removing Returning Officers, and also of appointing and establishing Polling Places for the election of Superintendent or of Members of the Provincial Council of such Province:

And whereas His Excellency Colonel Thomas Gore Browne, C.B., Governor of the said Colony, by warrant under his hand, bearing date the First day of October, 1861, did delegate to me, the said William Douglas Hall Baillie, as Superintendent of the Province of Marlborough, the above recited powers.

Now, therefore, I, the said William Douglas Hall Baillie, do hereby appoint the following places to be Polling Places for the respective Provincial Electoral Districts hereinafter specified, as constituted by the "Provincial Council Enlargement Act, 1862," for the Election of Members of the Marlborough Provincial Council.

For the Town of Picton—The Council Chamber, Picton.

For the Town of Blenheim—The Court House, Blenheim.

For the District of Lower Wairau—The house of Mr. Stratford.

For the District of Queen Charlotte Sound—The house of John Keenan, Tory Channel.

For the District of Tua Marina—The Ferry House at the Wairau River, kept by Mr. Hathaway.

For the District of Pelorus—The house of Mr. C. Yarker, Town of Havelock.

For the District of Upper Wairau—The Delta Dairy, Omaka.

For the District of Wairau Valley—The house of Mr. Ockley.

For the District of the Awatere—The house of Mr. McRae, Blarich.

For the District of Clarence—The School House at Mr. J. D. Tetley’s Station.

Given under my hand, at Picton, this Twenty-eighth day of January, 1863.

PROCLAMATION

By His Honour WILLIAM DOUGLAS HALL BAILLIE, Superintendent of the Province of Marlborough, in the Colony of New Zealand, &c., &c.,

WHEREAS by an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand, intituled "The Provincial Elections Act, 1858," it is enacted that it shall be lawful for the Governor of the Colony to delegate to the Superintendent of any province the power of appointing and removing Returning Officers, and also of appointing and establishing Polling Places for the Election of Superintendent or of Members of the Provincial Council of such province:

For the District of Upper Wairau—The house of Mr. M. Maher, Kaituna.

For the District of Clarence—Mr. Fyffe’s house, Kai Koura.
