Act, 1858," it is enacted that it shall
be lawful to the Governor to delegate to
the Superintendent of any province the
power of appointing and removing Returning Officers, and of establishing
Polling Places for the Election of Superintendent or of Members of the
Provincial Council of such Province:
And whereas His Excellency Colonel
Thomas Gore Browne, C.B., Governor
of the said Colony, by warrant under
his hand, bearing date the 1st day
of October, 1861, did delegate to me,
the said William Douglas Hall Baillie,
as Superintendent of the said Province
of Marlborough, the above recited
powers:
Now, therefore, I, the said William
Douglas Hall Baillie, Superintendent of
the said province, in pursuance of the
power and authority in me vested, do
hereby appoint
THOMAS WILLIAM DOWNES, ESQ.,
to be Returning Officer for the Electoral
District of Picton, in the said province.
Given under my hand, at Picton, this
seventeenth day of April, 1862.
