Proclamation of Highway Districts




PROCLAMATION.

By His Honor JOHN DAVIES ORMOND,
Superintendent of the Province of
Hawke’s Bay, in the Colony of New
Zealand.

WHEREAS under the provisions of the
“Highways Act, 1871,” passed
by the Provincial Council of Hawke’s Bay,
it is provided that the Superintendent may, for the purposes of the Act, from time to
time, by proclamation, divide the Province
or any part thereof into districts; and
whereas it is expedient to bring certain districts
in the Province of Hawke’s Bay
under the operations of the said Act.

Now, therefore, I, John Davies Ormond,
Superintendent of the Province of Hawke’s
Bay, in virtue of the powers vested in me
in this behalf, do hereby proclaim and
declare that every of the several areas of
land described in the Schedule to this
Proclamation as the boundaries thereof
severally are laid down in each Schedule,
shall form a separate Highway District
within the terms and meaning of the said
“Highway Act, 1871,” viz. :-

Peka Peka and Patea Districts.

Starts at the junction of the Tutaekuri
River with the Mangaone; thence up the
Mangaone to the north-western corner of
Section No. 1 of Pakiaka; thence in a line
bearing west to the Puketitiri Bush, and
along the northern and north-western edge
of that Bush to its most western extremity,
and thence in a line due south to the Tutaekuri River, and down that river to the
starting point at the junction of the Mangaone.

Pakowhai and Waitangi Districts.

Starts at the Waitangi Bridge, follows
along the main road to the north-western
boundary of the Tamatua Block, and along
the boundary of that block, on the sea beach,
to the Waitangi, and down the Waitangi into
the Ngaruroro, and up that river, to the
mouth of the Tutaekuri Waimata, and up that
stream to A. M’Hardy’s south boundary, and
along his boundary, through the Pakowhai
Block, to the Te Puninga Block; thence along
the boundary between the Pakowhai and the
Te Puninga Blocks to the Papakura Block,
and along the southern boundary of the Papakura Block to the junction of the Totara
creek with the Waitangi, and down the Waitangi
easterly direction to the bridle track to Porangahau, and along that bridle track to
the Porangahau River, and down that river
to the starting point.

Papakura District.

Starts at Tareha’s Bridge, follows along
the Meanee road to the Tutaekuri River,
at the race-course, and up that river to the
dry channel of the Tutaekuri at Pa Whaikairo, and up that channel to the Tutaekuri
Waimata, and down that stream to A. M’Hardy’s
south boundary, and follows then along his
boundary fence in an easterly direction to
the Te Puninga Block, and along the boundary
between that block and the Pakowhai Block
to the southern boundary of the Papakura
Block; thence along the southern boundary
of that block to the junction of the Totara
Creek with the Waitangi, and down the Waitangi
to the Waitangi Bridge, and thence along
the eastern boundary of the Whataangaanga Block
to the starting point at Tareha’s Bridge.

Pukahu Block.

Starts at the Ngaruroro River, at the
south-western corner of south suburban
section of Havelock, No. 8; thence along
the south boundary of that section to the
Te Auto road; thence along that road to
the south boundary of the suburban sections
of Havelock, and thence along the south side
of the road forming the boundary of these
sections to the Middle road at the south-eastern
corner of suburban section 39, and thence
along the Middle road to the southern extremity
of the Pukahu Block, at Forster’s Gorge, and
thence in a straight line along the boundary
of the Kao Kaoroa Block and the Pukahu Block
to the Awanui, across that stream to the Te
Auto road, along that road to the Awanui, at
Long Bridge, and down that stream to the
Ngaruroro, and down the Ngaruroro to the
starting point.

Havelock District.

Starts at the Ngaruroro River, at the
north-western boundary of the Havelock
suburban lands; thence follows up that
river to the south-western corner of south
suburban section of Havelock, No. 8; thence
along the southern boundary of that section
to the Te Auto road, and along that road to
the southern boundary of the suburban sections
of Havelock, and thence along the south side
of the road forming the boundary of those
sections to the Middle road at the south-eastern
corner of suburban section 39, and thence
along the south-western boundary of the
suburban sections to the south-west angle
of those sections; thence along the east and
north-east boundaries of Havelock township
to the starting point at the Ngaruroro River.

Mohaka District.

Starts at the sea coast, at the mouth of
the Waikare River; follows up that river to
the mouth of the Waitahuna; thence in a line
due north to the Mohaka River, and down that
river to the sea, and along the sea shore to
the starting point at the mouth of the Waikare.

Wainui and South Porangahau District.

Starting at the mouth of the Porangahau
River, following along the sea coast to the
mouth of the Waimata; thence up that stream
to its source; thence in a line due north to
the northern boundary of the Tantane Block,
and along that boundary in an easterly direction
to the bridle track to Porangahau, and along
that bridle track to the Porangahau River, and
down that river to the starting point.

Patangata District.

Starts at Patangata Bridge over the Papanui,
follows along the west boundary of the Middle
Road to its crossing of the Tamamau-Kaikora
Road, and thence along the north boundary of
that road to the Tuki Tuki, down that river to
the mouth of the Papanui, and up that stream
to the starting point at Patangata Bridge.

Kawranaki District.

Starts at the northern boundary of block 8,
Te Mata District, at the Middle Road, follows
along that line of road in a south-westerly
direction to the Kaokaora Block;
