THE following Notice, issued by the
Officer commanding the Militia
and Volunteers in the Province of
Hawke\'s Bay, is published for general
information.

N O T I C E.
IN accordance with orders received
from His Excellency the Governor,
I hereby give notice that all the men
resident in the Town of Napier who
are liable to serve in the Militia of
Hawke\'s Bay, are called out for train-
ing, and directed to attend at the Go-
vernment Offices, Napier, on the 23rd
of August, inst., at 11 o\'clock.

THE following Clauses of the Militia
Act, dated 28th May, 1858, are
published for the information and
guidance of those concernedβ15 and
16. And also the 6th Clause of the
Militia Amendment Act, dated the 3rd
November, 1860.

XV. Notice of the times and places for training
and exercise to be from time to time fixed by the
Governor, or by such person as he may from time
to time appoint for that purpose, shall be posted
in such conspicuous places within the District,
fourteen days at least before the time to be so ap-
pointed as aforesaid, which shall be deemed suf-
ficient notice to every Militiaman; and all such
Militiamen shall duly attend accordingly: Provi-
ded always that it shall be lawful for the Gover-
nor, or such person as he shall appoint as his
deputy for that purpose, from time to time to call
out the whole, or any part, and to form any
Regiment, Battalion, Corps, or Company, as he
shall think fit: Provided also, that no Militiaman
shall be obliged to attend for training and
exercise more than one hundred and sixty-eight
hours in any one year.
XVI. Every Militiaman (not labouring under
any infirmity incapacitating him) who shall not
appear at the time and place appointed for his
being trained and exercised, (notice having been
given as by this Act required), shall forfeit and
pay any sum not exceeding Twenty pounds, to be
recovered in a summary way.
VI. Section X of the "Militia Act, 1858," is
hereby repealed, and in lieu thereof: Be it enacted
that every man, except as hereinafter excepted
between the ages of sixteen years and fifty-five
years, being a British subject and not an Ab-
original Native, who shall reside within the Colo-
ny, shall be liable to serve in the Militia: Provided
that the Judges of the Supreme Court, the Execu-
tive Council of the Colony, Members of the Gene-
ral Assembly, Superintendents of Provinces,
Members of Provincial Councils during session,
Clergymen, Priests, Ministers of Religion, Cate-
chists, and also persons afflicted with lunacy or
unsoundness of mind, deafness, blindness, or with
any other disease or infirmity that may render
them unfit for service (such disease or infirmity
being duly certified by a Medical Practitioner ap-
pointed by the Governor) shall be exempt from
serving on such Militia.

vince of Hawke\'s Bay, in the Islands
of New Zealand.

Province of Hawke\'s Bay, do hereby Pro-
claim that a Sale of Crown Lands will
take place at the Crown Lands Office, Na-
pier, on Tuesday, the 1st day of October,
at noon precisely, when the Allotments of
Land specified in the Schedule hereunto
annexed, and which have been duly certi-
fied by the Commissioner of Crown Lands,
on the application of intending purchasers,
as being unavailable for agricultural pur-
poses, will be put up to Public Auction
at the upset price of 5s. per acre, in accor-
dance with the Land Regulations of the
4th March, 1853, and the additional
Regulations for the amendment and ex-
tension of the said Regulations recom-
mended by the Superintendent and the
Council for the Province of Wellington
(Session 2) to the Governor.
Dated this seventh day of August, in
the year of our Lord one thousand
eight hundred and sixty-one.
