โœจ Survey Report and Land Sale Proclamation

the subdivision of the Pukititiri forest into sections must, however, be deferred until the question respecting the boundaries of the Native Reserve have been settled.

Sections are being staked out on each side of the line of road from Pukikura to Blackhead. The maps will probably be laid before your Honor in a fortnight's time.

I purpose deferring the survey of the Arapawanui and Moeangiangi blocks until all the arrears of survey are completed.

Unless the Government are likely soon to acquire more land, I feel it imperative on me to advise that the Survey Staff be reduced to three Surveyors and one Draughtsman, and, indeed, if the system is continued of allowing accredited private Surveyors to execute surveys in Section IV, Clause XV, of Land Regulations, March 4th, 1853, two Surveyors would be sufficient.

After the end of this quarter the office work in this Department could be performed by one Draughtsman, as already there are 953 Crown Grants prepared, and several of the maps required for the Registration Office are completed.

H. S. TIFFEN,
Chief Provincial Surveyor.
