GRAMMAR: Standard III. Oral Lessons by Teacher.

No candidate for pupil teachership will be received who has not either passed in Standard IV. or can produce a certificate that he or she is well versed in the subjects of that standard.

No. 9.—The Committee are requested to instruct a teacher in each school to devote three half hours in each week to teaching vocal music. Where satisfactory progress is made, the teacher will be entitled to receive at the rate of Five Pounds per annum for giving such instruction.

No. 10.—Committees are requested to inform teachers that, when the Drill Instructor visits a school such scholars as he may request shall be placed under his sole authority whilst receiving his branch of instruction. Any master reported by the Drill Instructor as being competent to give instruction in military drill, will be required to devote two half hours in each week to the same. The mistress or her assistants will be expected to devote two half hours in each week in instructing the girls in calisthenics, the exercises to correspond to those given by the Drill Instructor. Committees are requested to inform the teachers that they are expected, when practicable, to attend the drill class for the instruction of teachers held by the Drill Instructor as may be advertised, and will be allowed travelling expenses on Drill Instructor’s certificate of attendance.

No. 11.—No written communication relative to District School matters will be received at the Education Office unless forwarded through the District Committee. As soon as practicable after receiving any such communication in writing, the Chairman is requested to call the Committee together, lay the matter before the Committee, and thereupon forward the same to the Education Office, with any explanation or comment they may deem necessary.

No. 12.—Each District Committee shall keep a Minute Book, in which a faithful record shall be kept of all resolutions passed and business transacted at each Committee meeting. Before any business is transacted at a meeting of Committee, the minutes shall be read and confirmed.

No. 13.—Any Committee incurring an unauthorised expenditure will be liable for the same. When any public money is paid to the credit of a Committee, the Chairman will be advised of the same from the Education Office, and of the purposes to which it is to be devoted. Should the money or a portion of it be used in any other way, the 57th Clause of “The Education Ordinance, 1875,” will be enforced.
