  1. Give the modern spelling instead of the old forms of words in the following passage:—

There was also a Nunne, a Prioress,
That of hire smiling was ful simple and coy;
Hire greatest othe n’as but by Seint Eloy;
And she was cleped Madame Eglentine.
Ful wel she sange the service divine,
Entuned in hire nose ful swetely;
And French she spake ful fayre and fetisly,
After the scole of Stratford atte Bowe,
For French of Paris was to hire unknowe.
At mete was she wele ytaught withalle;
She let no morsel from her lippes falle,
She wette hire fingers in hire sauce depe.
Wel coude she carie a morsel, and wel kepe,

  1. Write sentences to show the use of the following words:—

  1. Give the derivation of each word in question 4.

  2. Write not less than thirty lines on “The Qualities which School Boys admire in each other.”

  3. Write the substance of a passage read by the Examiner. (Be careful with the punctuation.)

  4. Write out the forms of the verb ‘to see’ in the second person singular of all moods and tenses of the active and passive voices.

  5. Analyse the following sentence:—

At Palmerston, an inland town, Mr. Manson’s sawmill was burned down; but, by dint of great exertions, the cut timber lying stacked was saved.
