Hackney Carriage Regulations




FARES BY DISTANCE.

The fares shall be as follows:—

  1. From any place within the City Boundary to any other place within the City Boundary ... 1s.
    N.B.—The Railway Station (Goods and Passenger) to be deemed for this purpose to be within the City Boundary.

  2. For every mile or part beyond the City Boundary ... 1s.

  3. For every fifteen minutes detention at one time ... 1s.

  4. In case of a carriage licensed to carry more than two passengers one half extra for every adult carried more than two.

  5. When the passenger is not set down at the place of hiring half fare to be allowed back to the City Boundary for any distance exceeding two miles from the City Boundary.

GENERAL.

For hiring a carriage and not further employing the same ... 1s.

One half the above fares extra to be charged between 10 o'clock p.m. and 6 o'clock a.m.

Luggage not exceeding 14 lbs. in weight for each person carried to be included in above fares.

Drivers to drive at six miles an hour unless unavoidably delayed or required by the hirer to drive slower.

BOROUGH STAGE CARRIAGES.

Per mile or part of a mile per passenger not exceeding ... 6d.

SCHEDULE G.

CITY OF CHRISTCHURCH.

BY-LAW No. 1. CLAUSE 26.

The following places have been appointed by the City Council as Public Stands under the Hackney Carriage By-Law:— To stand

On the Triangle opposite Messrs. Cobb and Co.’s Office, western side of the Public Lamp ... 7

On the Triangle, opposite the City Hotel, facing east ... 6

Post Office, south side, facing east or west ... 5

On the Triangle at junction of High street and Manchester street east or west ... 7

Public Lamp Junction, Peterborough street and Whately road ... 7

South Town Belt, each side of entrance to Railway Passenger Station ... 20

In Cathedral Square, close along the west footpath in centre of the square so long as the said footpath shall remain in its present position ... 20

In centre of Triangle formed by Chester street and Whately road, near the Law Courts ... 8

Passed by the Council this the 19th November, 1874, and ordered to be sealed.
