PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by an ordinance of the Superintendent and Provincial Council of the Province of Canterbury, intituled "The Education Ordinance, 1873," it is among other things provided, that the Superintendent may, under the provisions of Section 26 of the said Ordinance, declare any portion of the said Province not comprised within the limits of any Educational District to be an Educational District.
Now, therefore, I, WILLIAM ROLLESTON, Superintendent of the said Province, in pursuance of the powers vested in me, do hereby by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, declare the portions of the Province hereinafter described to be Educational Districts, with such names, and with such boundaries as are hereinafter set forth :β

| Irwell Educational District | Bounded on the north by the River Selwyn; east by Lake Ellesmere; west by the Racecourse and Southbridge Railway; and on the south by the Leeston Educational District. |
| Brookside Educational District | Commencing where the Racecourse and Southbridge Railway crosses the river Selwyn; thence along the said railway to Hanmer's Road; thence easterly along the said road to the Ellesmere and Lincoln Road; thence along the last mentioned road to the southern corner of section 6046; thence north-westerly along the southern boundaries of sections 6046, 6137, 5851, 7243, 7942, and in a straight line from the western corner of the latter section to the eastern corner of section 8431; thence westerly along the road between sections 8431 and 9013 to its junction with the road between sections 9933, and 10577; thence north-westerly along this latter road to its junction with the road between sections 9580 and 9597; thence westerly along this latter road to its junction with the Selwyn and Rakaia Road; thence north-easterly along this latter road to the point where it crosses the river Selwyn; thence following the course of the river to the starting point. |
