Land Reserves




Public Works Office,
Christchurch, November 11, 1873.

His Honor the Superintendent directs it to be notified that he has made the following Reserves, temporarily, under the 19th Clause of the Waste Lands Regulations, viz:—

No. 1579 (in red)—All that portion of the Province of Canterbury bounded on the northward by the River Ashley; on the eastward by a line parallel to the sea coast and 20 chains distant therefrom; on the southward by the estuary of the Rivers Avon and Heathcote; on the westward by the said estuary, thence by the River Avon as far as the road at the southernmost corner of Section 5278; thence by a line 20 chains distant from and parallel to the eastern boundary. Save and except land purchased and finally reserved to date.—For planting purposes.

No. 1580 (in red)—Sixty-six acres, more or less, situate in the Timaru District; bounded on the northward by Section No. 10453; on the westward by Section No. 10174; on the eastward by the road separating Sections Nos. 10453 and 10454; and on the southward by the McKenzie Country Road.—For a recreation ground.

No. 1581 (in red)—Twenty-three acres, more or less, situate in the Timaru District; bounded on the northward by Section 3274, and also by the McKenzie Country Road; on the eastward by Section 10407; on the westward by the continuation of the western boundary of Section 3274; and on the southward by Section 11122. The above-described land is within I. P. R. A. 2, in Runs 519, 520, 521.—For a cemetery.

No. 1582 (in red)—Two roods, more or less, situate in the Town of Waimate, having frontage of 2 chains to the south-eastern side of Queen street, and running back south-easterly 2 chains 50 links, in a rectangular block, and more particularly delineated and described on the map of the Chief Surveyor of the Province of Canterbury, setting out and describing the Town of Waimate aforesaid.—For Road Board Office purposes.

No. 1587 (in red)—Thirty-five acres, more or less, being part of the Peninsula, situate at the head of the bay, in Akaroa Harbour, bounded on the eastward, southward, and westward by the road reserved along high-water mark, and on the northward by section 728. The land above described is within C. A. Pre-emptive Right No. 117.—For harbour purposes.

No. 1588 (in red)—Five acres, more or less, situate in the Oxford District, bounded on the north-eastward by the Oxford Tram Road; on the westward by Sections 4579 and 11086; on the south-westward by a line parallel to and 10 chains distant from the north-east boundary; and on the south-eastward by a line at right angles to aforesaid road, so as to contain the above quantity.—For a gravel pit.

No. 1589 (in red)—Eighty acres, more or less, situate in Malvern District, bounded on the eastward by Section 12576; on the southward by Section 12591; on the westward by the road to Hororata Downs; and on the northward by a line drawn at right angles to western boundary, so as to meet the westernmost corner of aforesaid Section 12576.—For recreation purposes.

No. 1590 (in red)—Four acres, more or less, situate in the Timaru District; bounded on the northward by Section 7851; on the southward by the Geraldine and Waihi Road; on the westward by a line in continuation of the western boundary of section 7851; and on the eastward by a line parallel to the western boundary, to include the required quantity.—For a school site.

No. 1591 (in red)—Five acres, more or less, situate in the Upper Christchurch District, having 6 chains 25 links frontage to the Bangor Road, and running back south-westerly a distance of 8 chains, in a rectangular block, N.W. of and adjoining Section 15556.—For a cemetery.

No. 1592 (in red)—Being Sections Nos. 124 and 125, Town of Ashburton.—As a site for public library and reading room.

No. 1593 (in red)—Being Sections 98 and 99, Town of Ashburton.—For Road Board purposes.

No. 1594 (in red)—Being Section No. 20, in the Town of Geraldine.—For Road Board purposes.

No. 1595 (in red)—Fifty acres, more or less, situate in the Timaru District, being a square block of land, bounded on the south-eastward by the McKenzie Country Road; and on the south-west by Reserve No. 1264 (in red).—For recreation purposes.

No. 1596 (in red)—Fifty-six acres, more or less, situate in the Christchurch District, commencing on the road at the north-east corner of Reserve No. 1453 (in red); thence north-easterly following said road to the north-west corner of Section 14513; thence south-easterly, following the south-
