the Southbrook stream; thence along
the said stream to its junction with
the Cam; thence along the north and
east banks of the Cam to its junction
with the Waimakariri; thence along
the Waimakariri to the Mill road;
thence along the Mill road to the
Oxford and Ohoka road; thence
along the Oxford and Ohoka road
and a line in continuation of the same
to the south-east corner of section
8275; thence along the southern
boundary of section 8275; and thence
in a straight line through sections
2895 and 2894 to the south-east
corner of section 4673; thence along
the southern and western boundaries
of section 2673 to the Oxford and
Kaiapoi Road; thence along the said
road to the commencing point, save
and except the line of the Great
Northern railway.

And that the name of such District should
be “The Mandeville and Rangiora Drainage
District,”
and that the number of Conservators
of which the Board of the district
should be constituted should be five:

Now, therefore, I, William Rolleston,
Superintendent of the Province of Canterbury,
do hereby make the following Regulations
for conducting the Election of Three
Members of the Board of Conservators for
the said District:—

  1. The person who may be appointed by
    the Superintendent to conduct the
    election, and to whom the Writ of
    Election shall be directed, shall be
    present at the time and place named
    therein as the time and place of
    election.

  2. Any person entitled to vote at the
    election of a Member or Members of
    the Board may nominate a candidate
    at the time and place named by the
    Superintendent as the time and place
    of election.

  3. The Returning Officer shall put the
    name of each candidate separately to
    the persons qualified to vote who
    may be then present, and shall, un-
    less a poll is demanded, declare ac-
    cording to the majority of the votes
    given upon whom the election is
    fallen.

  4. If any Candidate shall demand a poll
    the Returning Officer shall hold such
    poll forthwith, and close the same at
    Two o’clock on the same day, and
    shall conduct the same in accordance
    with the provisions of an Act of the
    General Assembly of New Zealand
    intituled “The Regulation of Elections Act, 1858.”

  5. The person appointed by the Superin-
    tendent to conduct the election shall
    forthwith return the Writ of Elec-
    tion to the Superintendent with the
    names of the persons elected en-
    dorsed thereon.

Given at Christchurch, this twentieth
day of June, one thousand eight
hundred and seventy-three.
