divisions of the Province of Canterbury, the boundaries whereof are set forth in the Schedule hereto, and that the boundaries of such divisions should be proclaimed:

Now, therefore, I, Sir George Ferguson Bowen, G.C.M.G., Governor of New Zealand, in exercise and pursuance of the power and authority conferred on me by the said Act, do hereby proclaim and declare that for the purposes of the said Act there shall be within the said Province of Canterbury divisions or districts, the boundaries whereof shall be the boundaries set forth in the Schedule hereto.


SCHEDULE.

CHRISTCHURCH DISTRICT.

Bounded on the northward by the south bank of the Hurunui River; on the westward by the County of Westland; on the southward by the north bank of the Rangitata River from the sea to the source of its tributary the Clyde River; and on the eastward by the sea, save and except the District of Akaroa, hereinafter defined.

AKAROA DISTRICT.

Bounded on the Northward by the summit of the range running by Mount Herbert and Mount Herbert Peak, and also by the sea; on the eastward and southward by the sea; on the westward by Lake Ellesmere from its outlet to the sea to the mouth of the River Halswell, by that river to the western boundary of Section 1879, thence by that boundary and the Ahuriri Bush Road south to the southern boundary of Section 1901, by that boundary and also by the ridge of hills by Cooper’s Knobs.

TIMARU DISTRICT.

Bounded on the northward by the north bank of the Rangitata River from the sea to the source of its tributary the Clyde River; on the west by the County of Westland; on the southward by the Province of Otago; and on the eastward by the sea.

Given under the hand of his Excellency Sir George Ferguson Bowen, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government House at Wellington, this eleventh day of October, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy-one.

HIS EXCELLENCY the Governor has been pleased to appoint the following persons to be Inspectors of Weights and Measures, under The Weights and Measures Act, 1868, for the Districts in the Province of Canterbury set opposite their names respectively, viz.:

Constantine Walsh, Christchurch;
David Ramsay, Akaroa;
James Kennedy, Timaru.
