✨ Licensing Regulations
REGULATION FOR LICENSING CARTS AND CARTERS.
- For every License for every Cart plying for hire within five miles of the Post-office, within the limits of the Borough of Timaru, there shall be paid to the Town Clerk such sum or sums as are specified in Schedule A to this Regulation.
Application for License.
- No Carrier’s Cart shall be Licensed except on application, signed by the Owner thereof, made in the form specified in Schedule B to this Regulation, and delivered at the office of the Town Clerk.
No. of License.
- Every License for every such Cart shall have stated thereon the name and place of the abode of the Owner, and shall be numbered in such order as shall be determined by the Council, and shall be in the form specified in Schedule B to this Regulation, and shall be signed by the Town Clerk.
Renewal of License.
- Any License may be renewed for one year from its expiration on application being made at the office of the Town Clerk by the Owner of the Cart thereby licensed, not later than the fifteenth day of the month of October in which such License shall expire; such Owner at the same time leaving the same with the Town Clerk, who shall give him a receipt for the same.
Number to be painted on Cart.
- The Owner of every Licensed Cart shall, before using the same, or allowing the same to be used, pursuant to such License, paint upon a conspicuous part of the offside thereof, and upon no other cart, in consecutive order, in words and figures of not less than two inches in height, white upon a ground of black, the initial or initial letters of his Christian name and his surname in full; the words “Licensed Carrier,” and the number or numbers of the License or Licenses which shall then be in force for the same; and shall keep such painting undefaced, legible, and conspicuous, during all such time as such License or Licenses shall continue in force and no longer.

SCHEDULE A.
LICENSE FEE TO BE PAID BY THE OWNER OF EVERY CART ANNUALLY.
If a Ratepayer of the Borough ... 10s.
If a Non-Ratepayer ... 20s.
SCHEDULE B.
AN APPLICATION FOR A CARTER’S LICENSE.
To the Mayor and Councillors of the Borough of Timaru.
I, residing in , do hereby request that a Carter’s License may be granted to me to use, employ, and let a ___ to ply within the said Borough, and within the distance of five miles from the Post-office; and I hereby undertake to comply with all Bye-Laws which may be in force in this behalf so long as such License may continue.

Borough of Timaru, to Wit.
Whereas of has made application for a Carrier’s License to ply pursuant to the provisions of Regulation No. 8, intituled “A Regulation Licensing Passenger Vehicles, Carts and Carters, &c.”
And whereas the issue of such a License has been duly authorised by the said Council: Now, therefore, I, the Town Clerk of the said Borough, by the authority and on the behalf of the said Council, do hereby License the said to ply as a Public Carrier within the distance of five miles of the Post-office, the said which is numbered __ until the __ day of __ 18, and no longer. Subject to the said regulations, and to such other orders and regulations and bye-laws as may from time to time be in force until the day of ____ 18__.
