✨ Education Statistics Report
During its last Session, also, the Council repealed the clause by which the annual grant payable by the Board towards the maintenance of District Schools, was limited to £75, and a vote was passed for a sum of money considerably in excess of that voted during previous years for this purpose.
The sums now paid quarterly to the several District Schools under the Ordinance of 1864, vary according to the number of children in average attendance at each school, provision being made for the granting of bonuses in cases where an increase in general efficiency is shewn.
The statistics of attendance for the year 1870, shew that the total number of scholars at Ordinary Schools aided by the Board, was, during the December Quarter, 3662, being an increase of 306 on the number for the same quarter of 1869.
The average attendance during the December Quarter, 1870, was 2626, an increase of 264 on the same quarter of the previous year.
