The Education Ordinance, 1864

"The Education Ordinance, 1864," it is, among other things, enacted that whenever the Board of Education shall call by advertisement a public meeting of owners and occupiers of land and householders in any district, and such meeting shall declare by the votes of the majority of the persons present (being such owners and occupiers of land and householders as aforesaid), that they are willing that the said district be formed into an Educational District under the provisions of the said Ordinance, and shall declare their willingness to provide the proportion of the annual expenses of an Educational District, the Superintendent shall, as soon as conveniently may be, by Proclamation in the Provincial Government Gazette, declare such district to be an Educational District under the said Ordinance, and such district shall thereupon become an Educational District accordingly.

And whereas at a meeting duly called as aforesaid, and held at Mr. J. Hart’s House, Lake Ellesmere, on Wednesday, the fifth day of October, one thousand eight hundred and seventy, the owners and occupiers of land and householders in the district specified in the Schedule hereto annexed, did by the votes of the majority there present declare that they were willing that the said district should be formed into an Educational District, and did further declare their willingness to provide the proportion of the annual expenses of an Educational District as provided in the said Ordinance:

Now, therefore, I, William Rolleston, Superintendent of the said Province, in pursuance of the power in me vested by the said in part recited Ordinance, do hereby proclaim that the district specified in the Schedule hereto annexed, shall be an Educational District within the meaning of the said Ordinance.

Given under my hand, at Christchurch, this twenty-second day of November, one thousand eight hundred and seventy.

SCHEDULE.

GREENPARK EDUCATIONAL DISTRICT.

Starting at the junction of the L1 Creek with Lake Ellesmere; thence northerly and north-easterly up the said creek to the north-west corner of section 7644; thence easterly along the northern boundary of that section and of sections 6873, 6238, 6134, 6072, 5841, and 5747, to the road to the east of the latter section; thence southerly along this road to the road to the north of section 7251; thence easterly along this latter road to the river Halswell; thence northerly along the river to the road to the south of section 4870; thence easterly along this road to its junction with the reserve for road and drain purposes (said reserve being to the east of section 1432); thence southerly along the said reserve to Lake Ellesmere, and westerly along the shore of the Lake to the starting point.

PROCLAMATION

By His Honor William Rolleston, Esq.,
Superintendent of the Province of Canterbury.

WHEREAS by an Ordinance of the Superintendent and Provincial Council of the Province of Canterbury, intituled "The Education Ordinance, 1864," it is, among other things, enacted that whenever the Board of Education shall call by advertisement a public meeting of owners and occupiers of land and householders in any district, and such meeting shall declare by the votes of the majority of the persons present (being such owners and occupiers of land and householders as aforesaid), that they are willing that the said district be formed into an Educational District under the provisions of the said Ordinance, and shall declare their willingness to provide the proportion of the annual expenses of an Educational District, the Superintendent shall, as soon as conveniently may be, by Proclamation in the Provincial Government Gazette, declare such district to be an Educational District under the said Ordinance;

And whereas at a meeting duly called as aforesaid, and held at Slee’s Selwyn Hotel, Selwyn, on Friday, the seventh day of October, one thousand eight hundred and seventy, the owners and occupiers of land and householders in the district specified in the Schedule hereto annexed, did by the votes of the majority there present declare that they were willing that the said district should be formed into an Educational District, and did further declare their willingness to provide the proportion of the annual expenses of an Educational District as provided in the said Ordinance:

Now, therefore, I, William Rolleston, Superintendent of the said Province, in pursuance of the power in me vested by the said in part recited Ordinance, do hereby proclaim that the district specified in the Schedule hereto annexed shall be an Educational District within the meaning of the said Ordinance.

Given under my hand, at Christchurch, this twenty-second day of November, one thousand eight hundred and seventy.
