HIS Honor the Superintendent directs it to be notified that he has appointed, under "The Canterbury Waste Lands Act, 1869," to assess the value of all runs not held under "The Canterbury Waste Lands Act, 1864," and to determine the rent which shall be paid for the same on and after the First day of May, one thousand eight hundred and seventy.

HIS Honor the Superintendent directs it to be notified that he has made the following Reserve; temporarily, under the 19th clause of the Waste Lands Regulations, for educational purposes, viz,:
No. 1241, in red.—One hundred and fifty-six acres, more or less, bounded on the north-eastward by the Coal Tramway Reserve; on the north-westward by sections 9320, 10,362, and lines in continuation of the south-eastern boundary of these sections; on the south-eastward by the road forming the north-western boundary of section 10,075; and on the south-westward by section 10,558, and the River Hawkins: subject to roads.

REMARKS.
There was a considerable amount of showery weather during the month, but no heavy rainfalls. The temperature was lower than the average for the month during the five previous years by 1·3 deg. F. Two slight earthquake shocks were felt, one on the 3rd and the other on the 13th.
