Harewood Road School, ... June 11 ... Present, 13 ... Moderate.
Papanui Wesleyan School, June 12 ... Present, 25 ... Improving.
Kaiapoi Wesleyan School, June 15 ... Present, 27 ... Improving. The master proposes, to the Local Committee, to remove the school children to his own dwelling, nearly adjoining the Church of England School. The proposed Schoolroom is objectionable except as an unavoidable make-shift.
Lower Hentschote School,
Ferry Road, June 18 ... Present, 22 ... Attainments, moderate.
Not enough books. No fire, no sign of there having been one during the last few cold and rainy days. The approaches to the School were ankle-deep in mud; muddy paths and wet grass about the building lessened what comfort the children got by being sent out to get warm in the sunshine. Some necessary repairs and improvements are still neglected, although the Local Committee retain £25 per annum, of the grant in aid, in order to defray expenses.
Papanui St. Paul’s School, June 19 ... Present, 67 ... Satisfactory on the whole, although not quite up to their usual standard.
Lyttelton Wesleyan School, June 22 ... Present, 27 ... Improving.
South Selwyn School, ... June 23 ... Present, 13 ... Note.—The average for the quarter is 20, but the flooded roads have kept away seven regular attendants, three Buckleys, one Bishop, one Moon, and two Rapleys. The Buttricks, less regular, are also cut off by the overflow. The progress satisfactory, except that the copybooks might be better. Darnell’s copybooks would be preferable.
The repairs at Saltwater Creek School had been progressing slowly, but satisfactorily; on June 5 they were still incomplete. New desks are being made.
