XXX.

It will be seen from the Tabular Summary, that the number of Schools at work during the quarter has been 50, an increase of five upon the corresponding quarter of last year. The gross number of attendants has been 2663, an increase of 232. The average daily attendance has been 1733, an increase of 255. The increase in the average being greater than in the gross attendance, because the former had not increased, but had varied inversely with the latter, in this quarter of last year.

The amount of School fees “due” and “received” for the quarter, has been £940 11s. 9d., an increase of £150 4s. 7d.

It will be seen from the Schedule as to their efficiency, that the number of Ordinary Schools examined has been 38, including 1466 children.

The Orphan Asylum was inspected and examined early in the quarter, and a Special Report was forwarded to the Government.

The “Junior Scholars,” those holding the “Government Scholarships,” awarded to Candidates from Ordinary Schools, have been specially examined during the quarter, and a full Report has been made upon their generally satisfactory progress.

I have the honour to be, Sir,

Your obedient servant,

J. P. RESTELL,
Inspector of Schools.
