β¨ Educational District Proclamations
PROCLAMATION
By His Honor William Rolleston,
Esq, Superintendent of the Province of Canterbury.
WHEREAS by an Ordinance of the Superintendent and Provincial Council of the Province of Canterbury, entitled "The Education Ordinance, 1864," it is among other things enacted that whenever the Board of Education shall call by advertisement a public meeting of owners and occupiers of land and householders in any district, and such meeting shall declare by the votes of the majority of the persons present (being such owners and occupiers of land and householders as aforesaid) that they are willing that the said district be formed into an Educational District, under the provisions of the said Ordinance, and shall declare their willingness to provide the proportion of the annual expenses of an Educational District, the Superintendent shall, as soon as conveniently may be, by Proclamation in the Provincial Government Gazette, declare such district to be an Educational District under the said Ordinance; and such district shall thereupon become an Educational District accordingly:
And whereas at a meeting duly called as aforesaid, and held at the Mill, Milford, on Tuesday, the nineteenth day of January last, the owners and occupiers of land and householders in the district specified in the Schedule hereunto annexed, did by the votes of the majority there present declare that they were willing that the said district should be formed into an Educational District, and did further declare their willingness to provide the proportion of the annual expenses of an Educational District as provided in the said Ordinance:
Now therefore, I, William Rolleston, Superintendent of the said Province, in pursuance of the power in me vested by the said in part recited Ordinance, do hereby proclaim that the district specified in the Schedule hereunto annexed shall be an Educational District within the meaning of the said Ordinance.

SCHEDULE
MILFORD EDUCATIONAL DISTRICT,
Commencing at the point where the River Orari runs into the sea; thence southerly along the sea beach to the Umukaha, mouth of the River Opihi; thence westerly up that river to a point due south of the easternmost corner of section 3285; thence in a straight line to such corner; thence north-westerly along the eastern boundaries of sections 3285, 10,170, 10,874, to the north-eastern corner of the latter section; thence in a straight line to the nearest corner of section 8810; thence north-easterly along its eastern boundary to the north-eastern corner thereof; thence in a straight line to the junction of the road running between sections 6025 and 6018, with the road running between sections 6025 and 6724; thence westerly along this latter road to its junction with the road running between sections 10,666 and 9572; thence northerly along this latter road and a line in continuation thereof to the River Orari; and thence easterly along the river bed to the starting point.
ELLESMERE EDUCATIONAL DISTRICT,
Ellesmere, to the southern boundary of section No. 1755; thence along same easterly to the road forming the eastern boundary of that section, continued along the north-east side of section No. 1447, and west of section No. 1250; thence along Burke's Road under the hills following that road to its junction with the Lower Lincoln Road, and following the Lower Lincoln Road to the north-western corner of section No. 5786; thence easterly following the northern boundary of that section at Trigonometrical Station, C. 6, by the foot of the hills to the old Lincoln Road; thence northerly following that road to its junction with the road north of sections Nos. 1108, 6357, 486, 338B, to the Hoon Hay Road, following that road to the westernmost corner of section No. 383, following the western, southern, and eastern boundaries of that section to the road under the Hills at Cashmere, following easterly along that road to its junction with the road north of section 254, following easterly along that road to its junction with the Bridle Path; thence northerly following the Bridle Path to its junction with the River Heathcote; thence along the same to the eastern boundary of the Heathcote Road District, following same across the Estuary; thence along the Sea Beach by the eastern boundary of the Avon Road District to the mouth of the River Waimakariri; thence following up the right bank of the River to the commencing point.
