PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS, by an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand, passed in the thirty-second year of the reign of Her Majesty Queen Victoria, entitled "The Canterbury Rivers Act, 1868," it was, inter alia enacted that "it shall be lawful for the Superintendent, by Proclamation in the New Zealand Gazette and also in the Provincial Gazette of the said Province, so soon as the Provincial Council shall by resolution in this behalf approve, to declare that this Act shall come into operation within such part or parts of the said Province, as the Superintendent shall by such Proclamation define, and to declare such part or parts to be a district or districts, under this Act, and such Proclamation shall also designate the name by which such district or districts shall be known:"
Now therefore, I, WILLIAM ROLLESTON, the Superintendent of the Province of Canterbury, in pursuance of a Resolution of the Provincial Council, in this behalf, do hereby declare that "The Canterbury Rivers Act, 1868," shall come into operation within the district hereinafter described, and that the said District shall be known as the South Waimakariri District—that is to say, all that portion of the Province comprised within the following limits:
Commencing at a point on the right or South Banks of the River Waimakariri, the same being in continuation of the western boundary of rural section No. 9616; thence in a southerly direction along the western boundary of that section to its junction with the road south of section No. 6458; thence along that road continued to its junction with Dawson’s and Waimakariri Road; thence along same to its junction with the Lincoln and Prebbleton Road; thence along same to its junction with the Ellesmere Junction Road; thence along same to its junction with the Springs Road, following same to its intersection with the L.I. Creek, running into the Lagoon near to rural section No. 2937; thence by the west side of the Lagoon, and following the Creek from same, running into Lake Ellesmere near the mouth of the River Selwyn; thence following the boundary of the Springs Road District, by Lake Ellesmere and the right bank of the River Halswell, to a point situated on the western boundary of section No. 2439 produced; thence along the line of that boundary to the foot of the hills west of Trigonometrical Station No. 6; thence along the foot of the hills and high-water mark of Lake...
