ADDRESS OF HIS HONOR THE SUPERINTENDENT,
On Proroguing the Twenty-ninth Session of the Provincial Council, 9th July, 1868.
MR. SPEAKER AND GENTLEMEN—
In closing the present short session of the Provincial Council, I have to thank you for the readiness with which, in compliance with my request, you have attended in your places, and for the cordial co-operation which I have received from you in the transaction of the business submitted to you.
I trust that when I again meet this Council, I shall be able to announce that a satisfactory settlement of the claims of the Railway Contractors has been effected, and that the full extent of our past liabilities being ascertained and satisfied, you will be in a position to consider the best course to be adopted in the disposal of so much of the balance of the Loans as remains available.
The supplies which you have voted shall be carefully and economically dealt with.
I have assented, on behalf of his Excellency the Governor, to the following Bills:—
"The Cattle Rating Bill, 1868."
"The Diversion of Roads on Great Southern Railway Special Bill, 1868."
"The Railway Reserves Leasing Bill, 1868."
"The Kaiapoi Bridge Bill, 1868."
"The Interpretation Bill, 1868."
"The Appropriation Bill, No. 2, 1868."
I now declare that this Council stands prorogued until Friday, the 4th day of September, 1868.
WM. ROLLESTON,
Superintendent.
