✨ Provincial Council Address
226
I have intimated to you my personal dissent from the policy of the Resolutions on the sale of lands upon the Westland Gold-fields.
I shall make only a temporary arrangement for the working of the Lyttelton and Christchurch Railway and Great Southern Railway, it being my intention to call you together at an early date.
I very much regret that time has not permitted you to communicate with me on the subject of my Message, transmitting for your consideration a petition from unemployed operatives in Christchurch and neighbourhood.
I cordially concur with your Resolution affirming the impolicy of altering the price of land in Eastern Canterbury.
I trust that during the recess the temporary depression of our agricultural and mercantile interests may have disappeared.
Gentlemen, on behalf of His Excellency the Governor, I have assented to—
"The Sefton Church and Cemetery Reserve Bill, 1867,"
"The Sheep Rating Ordinance, 1866, Amendment Bill, 1867,"
"The Appropriation Bill, 1867, No. 2,"
"The Public House Ordinance, 1866, Amendment Bill, 1867,"
"The Fencing Ordinance, 1866, Amendment Bill, 1867,"
"The Diversion of Roads Special Bill, 1867, No. 1,"
"The Church Property Trust Amendment Bill, 1867,"
"The Volunteer Service Ordinances Repeal Bill, 1867,"
"The Christchurch Fire Prevention Bill, 1867,"
"The Roads Ordinance Amendment Bill, 1867,"
"The Grey River Coal-field Reserve Bill, 1867,"
"The Railway Tolls and Management Bill, 1867,"
"The Appropriation Bill, 1867, No. 3."
I have reserved for the signification of His Excellency the Governor’s pleasure thereon—
"The Heathcote Bridges Bill, 1867,"
"The Cam Bridge Bill, 1867,"
"The Provincial Council Extension Ordinance Amendment Bill, 1867."
"The Diversion of Roads Special Bill, No. 2," I shall be prepared to assent to shortly; and I disallow "The Limitation of Patronage Ordinance Amendment Bill."
Gentlemen, I have now to declare this Council is prorogued until the 19th day of September, 1867.
