AKAROA WHARF AND JETTY.

Public Works Office,

Christchurch, June 18, 1867.

His Honor the Superintendent directs it to be notified that on and after the First day of July next, the following Wharf Rates and Tolls will be charged at the Akaroa Wharf and Jetty, pursuant to the provisions of “The Akaroa Wharf Ordinance, 1866.”

TARIFF.

Heavy goods, as flour, sugar, coals, and all other articles considered as dead weight, per ton, ... One shilling and threepence.

Grain of all kinds, per bag, ... Twopence.

Bricks and slates, per 1000, ... Two shillings and sixpence.

General drapery, hosiery goods, haberdashery, millinery, and boots and shoes, per package, ... Ninepence.

Bags, bagging, and woolpacks, per bale, ... Ninepence.

Timber, per 100 feet superficial, ... Twopence.

Furniture, per package, ... One shilling.

Carts and carriages, each, ... Two shillings and sixpence.

Horses and horned cattle, per head, ... One shilling and sixpence.

Sheep and pigs, per head, ... Twopence.

All unenumerated goods, per package, ... Twopence.

Monthly average yet registered here. Mean direction of the wind, S.W. by S. The mean temperature of the month, 48°·8, shows a decrease of 6° on April, and is slightly above the average. There was less frost, only eight nights, and considerably more cloud than usual. The highest and lowest mean daily temperature was 60·3 and 40·0. The greatest and least daily range, 28·0 and 5·2. Spontaneous evaporation, 1·181 inches.

Rainfall, from January 1st to May 31st each year, as follows:—

1864 ... 5·752 inches on 34 days.

1865 ... 11·179 „ „ 37 „

1866 ... 8·872 „ „ 33 „

1867 ... 8·340 „ „ 27 „

Rainfall at Lyttelton, in May, 2·464 inches, on 10 days.

Rainfall at Bealey, in May, 6·017 inches, on 10 days.


HOKITIKA.

At the West Coast the weather was very fine at the commencement and towards the close of the month. Heavy rain fell on the 5th, and on the 21st and 22nd, with nine other days more or less showery. Gales blew on the 8th from the west, and on the 20th from the north; otherwise the month was remarkable for the absence of high winds, and for frequent calms. Mean velocity of the wind, 112 miles per day; mean direction, S.E. Thunder, without lightning, was heard on the 8th. No hail fell in the district, nor were there any fogs. Mean temperature, 50°·2, was 1°·4 above Christchurch. Frost occurred on eight nights. Rainfall from January 1st to May 31st, 30·27 inches on 62 days, against 51·30 inches on 81 days in the corresponding period in 1866.
