REMARKS.

CHRISTCHURCH.

The weather in this district during the month of April was exceedingly fine and dry throughout, with the exception of four hours heavy rain on the 6th, and a few light showers on the evening of the 17th. Bright sunny days and clear nights prevailed, with light breezes and frequent calms. The mean atmospheric pressure (30·139 inches) was considerably higher than in any former month since the work of the station began in November, 1863. During the last week especially the barometer ranged very high, 30·366 inches; the mean horizontal movement of the air for the same period only 61 miles per day. The mean temperature of the month corresponds closely with the average, or 54·8 against 54·6; the decrease on the previous month being 4·2. Mean temperature of evaporation, 51·6;
