and although the prosecution of many works of great utility has in consequence been compelled to be delayed, it must be allowed that the Government has exercised a wise and prudent firmness in limiting and arranging the expenditure of the public money.
In consequence of the death of the late Provincial Auditor, the Provincial Council will be called upon to concur with his Honor the Superintendent in nominating a fit and proper person to be Auditor of the Public Accounts of the Province of Canterbury, such appointment to be made within two months after the commencement of the ensuing Session.
