shall be struck off. The remainder shall
then be again put to the vote, and the name
having the smallest number of votes shall be
struck off; and so on until there shall be an
absolute majority of the members present
for one of the candidates. In case of an
equality of votes for two or more candidates,
the Chairman shall decide which shall be
struck off the list or be elected. The votes
of members of the Council shall, at the
election of officers be taken by ballot.

Lapsed Motions. All notices of motion not disposed of on their proper day,
either in consequence of the absence of a
quorum, or of the adjournment of the
Council, shall be set down on the notice
paper for the next sitting day, previous to
the notices given for that day. -
Petition. Every member presenting
a petition shall affix his name at the head
thereof; and no petition may be presented
after the Council shall have proceeded to the
business of the sitting. -
Strangers. Until otherwise ordered,
the sittings of the Council shall be private,
but reporters for the public press may upon
application be admitted, and may be allowed
to take copies of the recorded proceedings of
the Council. They may, however, at any
time be ordered to withdraw by the Chairman,
or by resolution of the Council. -
Suspension of Rules. Any one of
these rules may be suspended at any sitting
of the Council without notice, with the consent of not less than seven members.

HIS Honor the Superintendent, in pursuance of certain powers vested in him
by “The Empowering Ordinance, Sess. II,
No. 2,” directs it to be notified that the
footpaths hereinafter described, having been
well and sufficiently made and completed
for the use and accommodation of foot passengers, according to the provisions of “The
Footpaths Ordinance, Sess. VII, No. 12,”
are hereby declared to be public footpaths,
and from and after the date hereof shall be
deemed and taken accordingly to be public
footpaths within the meaning of the said
Ordinance.
The said footpaths are as follows:
- Madras-street, east side, from Cambridge-terrace to Salisbury-street.
- Madras-street, west side, from Cambridge-terrace to Salisbury-street.
- Peterborough-street, north side, from Durham-street to Papanui-road.
- Peterborough-street, south side, from Durham-street to Papanui-road.
- Road on north side of the Market-square.
- Antigua-street, from Hereford-street to Lichfield-street and Cambridge-terrace, on east and north-east sides.

THE Waste Lands Board hereby notify
that applications will be received on
and after the Fifth day of January, 1865,
being the first Board day in January, for
sections within the Town of Wai Rewa, in
accordance with the 26th clause of the Land
Regulations.
Certified maps of this town, as far as laid
out, will be open for public inspection at the
Land Office, Christchurch, on the third day
of January, 1865.
