IMMIGRATION COMMISSION.

Ship “William Miles.”

THE Commissioners were well satisfied with the arrangements of the Ship “William Miles,” with the exception of the lighting of the between decks, the scuttles being small, and there being no deck lights. This defect was especially noticed in the hospitals, which were very dark; and this would have been a serious evil, had they been occupied by invalids.

The arrangements for cleanliness had been well carried out, and the officers of the ship, as also the constables, and the two young women appointed by Mr. Marshman, to share the office of Matron, appear to have fulfilled their duties satisfactorily.

The Surgeon of the ship is stated to have performed his duties faithfully up to the time when he was incapacitated by sickness; and since that time all the passengers bear testimony to the kindness and diligence of the Captain in filling his place to the best of his ability.

The Officer charged with the issuing of provisions to the Immigrants had fully satisfied them in the discharge of his duty, and the Commissioners beg to recommend that he should receive a gratuity of five pounds.

The Commissioners recommend that all the usual gratuities be paid.
