Now therefore His Excellency the Governor, with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of New Zealand, doth hereby order that the "Crown Lands Act, 1862," shall come into operation within each of the aftermentioned Provinces of New Zealand, namely, the Provinces of Auckland, Wellington, Hawke’s Bay, Taranaki, Nelson, Marlborough, Canterbury, Otago, and Southland, on and from the 6th day of April next.

SALE OF TOWN & RURAL LANDS.

NOTICE is hereby given that the Sections of Land specified below will be submitted to Public Auction at the sitting of the Waste Lands Board, to be held at the Land Office, Christchurch, on Thursday, April 2, 1863, at the hour of Noon, subject to the usual conditions of sale, and in conformity with the Regulations for the disposal, sale, letting, and occupation of the Waste Lands of the Crown now in force within the Province of Canterbury.

NOTICE.

HIS Honor the Superintendent directs it to be notified, that the MEETINGS OF THE EXECUTIVE COUNCIL for the transaction of ordinary business are fixed for TUESDAY IN EACH WEEK. That all business which persons may require to bring before the Council at their ordinary sitting on Tuesday, shall be presented in writing at the Provincial Secretary’s Office on or before the Saturday previous. That any person seeking an interview with the Executive shall, on or before the Saturday previous to the sitting on the succeeding Tuesday, request in writing, addressed to the Provincial Secretary, an appointment with the Council. That all other business, except in cases of emergency, not presented at the Provincial Secretary’s office on or before the Saturday previous to the Tuesday Meeting, shall stand over until the following Tuesday.

Province of ) Know all Men by these presents that I, Samuel Bealey, Canterbury, ) Superintendent of the Province of Canterbury, do to wit. ) hereby, with the advice of the Executive Council, and in pursuance of the powers vested in me by "The Public-house Ordinance, 1862," License Thomas Wadsworth to Sell any Spirituous or Fermented Liquors in any quantity in a House of Accommodation to be erected by him on the Ferry Reserve on the eastern bank of the Tekapo stream of the River Waitaki, subject to the following conditions, viz. :-

  1. To provide in such house one sitting-room and two bedrooms, with at least four beds.

  2. To keep a sufficient supply of oats, to be charged for to travellers at the rate of eight-pence per imperial quart measure.

  3. To provide and keep in repair a safe ferry boat, and be ready at all times to convey foot-passengers across the stream, and accompany horsemen, drays, and other vehicles at the following rates, viz. :-

    Foot passengers ............ 1s. each
    Horsemen .................. 2s. 6d. each
    Drays and other vehicles ... 5s. each
    Merchandise ............... 10s. per ton
    Wool ...................... 1s. per bale.

  4. Officers of the General and Provincial Governments, Magistrates on duty, Police Constables on duty and prisoners, her Majesty’s mails, and the person in charge thereof, to be ferried or shown across the stream free of charge.

  5. To afford every assistance in his power in directing travellers to a safe ford.

  6. The usual other conditions in similar cases will be enforced, and extension of the accommodation, including provision for the shelter of stock, will be required at the next licensing meeting.

  7. The license to be cancelled if any of the conditions of the license be not fulfilled regularly, or if any drunkenness be proved to have been allowed on the premises, or if
