HIS Honor the Superintendent directs it to be notified that by virtue of the powers delegated to him by His Excellency the Governor under the "Provincial Elections Act, 1858," he has removed the Polling Place for the Wainui District from Carew’s Woolshed, Piraki, and has appointed

to be the Polling Place for the Election of the Superintendent and Members of the Provincial Council in the place thereof.

I, WILLIAM SEFTON MOORHOUSE, Superintendent of the Province of Canterbury, in pursuance of the powers vested in me by the 19th clause of the Waste Lands Regulations in force within the said Province, do hereby upon the recommendation of the Provincial Council, make the following Reserves in the Town of Timaru, for public purposes, namely:
Sections numbered 23, 24, 99, 100, 101, 102, 103, 104, 113, 114, 115, 116, 121, 122, 123, 127, 128, 131, 132, 133, 134, 135, 136, 147, 148, 191, 192, 198, 199, 232, 233, 317, 318, 362, and 368; and one block of land containing 2 acres 2 roods, and numbered in red 204; also sections numbered 25, 26, 30, and 31, on the map of the Chief Surveyor of the Province of Canterbury.

HIS Honor the Deputy Superintendent directs it to be notified for public information, that in pursuance of the powers vested in him by Clause 19 of the Waste Lands Regulations now in force within the Province of Canterbury, he has made the following Reserve of Land for public purposes, temporarily until the next Session of the Provincial Council, namely:
All that block of land containing 44 acres, more or less, situate in the Ellesmere district, bounded on the north-west by the railway reserve, on the north-east and south-west by a line 10 chains from and parallel to the before-mentioned railway reserve, and numbered 268 in red.
All that block of land in the Ashburton district, containing 488 acres, more or less, being bounded on the north-east by the reserves for township and ferry on the south bank of the Rakaia, on the north-west and south-east by lines parallel to and half-a-mile distant from the line of railway, and on the south-west by a line drawn through the 37th mile peg on said railway at right angles to the north-western and south-eastern boundaries, and numbered 265 in red.
Five acres, more or less, situate in the Ellesmere district, commencing at the western corner of Section 4583, on the railway reserve, thence south-westerly along the said reserve a distance of 10 chains, and running back south-easterly in a rectangular block a distance of 5 chains south-west of and adjoining the before-mentioned Section 4583, and numbered 266 in red.
All that block of land in the Ellesmere district, containing 39 acres, more or less, bounded on the south-east by the railway reserve, on the north-east and south-west by the high banks of the old river bed of the Selwyn, and on the north-west by a line parallel to and 10 chains distant from the before-mentioned railway reserve, and numbered 267 in red.
All that block of land containing 44 acres, more or less, situate in the Ellesmere district, bounded on the north-west by the railway reserve, on the north-east and south-west by the high bank of the old river bed of the Selwyn, and on the south-east by a line 10 chains from and parallel to the before-mentioned railway reserve, and numbered 268 in red.

SHIP "ECHUNGA."
THE Immigration Commissioners report that the arrangements on board the ship "Echunga" were satisfactory. They found the immigrants generally in good health, and well satisfied with the provisions, &c.
The single women’s compartment was well regulated. The Matron appeared to have performed her duties efficiently.
Four deaths had occurred on board—one adult and three children. The adult’s death is reported as from bronchitis senetis, and his age is down in the list as 69; his widow stated it as 59, and described him as an old sufferer from asthma. Eight births had occurred on board. A portion of the immigrants had been landed at Timaru. There appears to have been no understanding in London, or on board, as to what number of persons were to be left there, nor which of the immigrants; all their tickets are made for Canterbury. The Officer at Timaru appears to have understood that all were to be left at that port, and has forwarded two lists (enclosed), one, of those to come on shore with his approval; the other, those who came on without his consent—of the latter nearly all assured the Commissioners that they were coming to friends in Lyttelton, Christchurch, and its vicinity.
