NOTICE TO MARINERS.

THE following Flags and Signals have been approved for use at the Port of Timaru:—

HENRY SEWELL,
in the absence of Mr. Fox.

Flags.

No. 1. Blue Flag, with White Square in centre.
No. 2. Red Flag.
No. 3. White Flag, with Diagonal Red Cross.

Signals.

No. 1. Go to Sea, or Keep to Sea.
No. 2. No Communication.
No. 3. Anchor, No Danger.
No. 2-3. Go to the Large Moorings.
No. 3-2. Go to the Small Moorings.

These Signals to be answered, when understood, by the Ensign or Union Jack, with White Border, hoisted at the main.

FOR THE CUSTOMS.

GOVERNOR’S ORDER, No. 19.

Timaru appointed a Port for the Importation of Tobacco.

By His Excellency Sir George Grey, Knight, Commander of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand, and Vice-Admiral of the same, &c., &c.

In exercise of the powers in me for this purpose vested by the “Customs Regulation Act, 1858,” I, Sir George Grey, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby appoint that the Port of Timaru shall be a Warehousing Port for the purposes of the “Customs Regulation Act, 1858,” and do hereby approve of the same as a Port for the Importation of Tobacco.

Given under my hand at Auckland, this Fifth day of March, One Thousand Eight Hundred and Sixty-two.

THE Offices of the Provincial Government will for the future be closed on Wednesdays, at 1 o’clock p.m., the day named for Parades by the Canterbury Rifle Volunteers.
