Provincial Council Prorogation and Public Notices




ADJOURNMENT OF HIS HONOR THE SUPERINTENDENT,
On proroguing the Provincial Council, on Wednesday, January 22, 1862.

MR. SPEAKER AND GENTLEMEN OF THE COUNCIL,—

ON behalf of His Excellency the Governor, I have assented to the following Ordinances:

Housekeeper’s Ordinance,
Provincial and Deputy Auditor’s Salary Ordinance,
Lyttelton and Christchurch Railway Loan Appropriation Ordinance,
Lyttelton Municipal Council Reserves Ordinance,
Railway Severance Ordinance,
Canterbury Police Amendment Ordinance,
Omnibus Pass Ordinance, No. 2,
Appropriation Ordinance.

The Provincial Council Extension Ordinance, I have, in conformity with the Constitution Act, reserved for the assent of His Excellency the Governor.

Your labours being concluded, it only remains for me to thank you, on behalf of the Province, for the industry and intelligence exerted during an exceedingly protracted sitting.

The very liberal supplies you have granted me shall be carefully expended.

Gentlemen, I now declare that this Council is prorogued until Tuesday, the 15th July next.

HIS Honor the Superintendent directs it to be notified for public information, that in pursuance of the powers vested in him by the Waste Lands Regulations, now in force within the Province of Canterbury, he has made the following Reserve of Land for public purposes, temporarily, until the next Session of the Provincial Council, viz.:

200 acres in the Timaru district, commencing at a point on Mr. Rhodes’ boundary line, the same being the north-western corner of Section 3789, thence north-westerly along the said boundary line a distance of 29 chains 80 links, thence north-easterly at an angle of 132 deg. 10 min. a distance of 39 chains 98 links, thence south-easterly at a right angle a distance of 35 chains 50 links to the South Road, thence south-westerly and south-easterly along the said road distances of 41 chains and 21 chains 75 links respectively to the north-eastern corner of the before-mentioned Section No. 3789, and returning along the northern boundary of said section a distance of 21 chains 18 links to the commencing point.

I HEREBY certify that Monsieur JOSEPH LEVY has this day submitted to me his Diploma as a Member of the Faculty of Medicine, of Paris, in accordance with the Provisions of the Medical Practitioners’ Ordinance of New Munster, Session I., No. 2, 1849.

  1. METALLING FERRY ROAD, 2500 yards cube—
    Smith and Blackler ………… £2280
    Parish and Marshall ……… 2125

These Tenders have been rejected as excessive, and the work is open at the estimate of the Provincial Engineer, viz., £1500.

  1. METALLING HALSWELL JUNCTION ROAD, 1650 yards cube—
    Smith and Blackler … 6s. 6d. per cube yard.
    J. M. O’Neill ……… 6s. 4d.

These Tenders have been rejected as excessive, and the work is open at the Provincial Engineer’s Estimates, viz., at 3s. 6d. per cube yard.

  1. SOUTH ROAD and BRANCHES—
    Parish and Marshall ……… £5400
    Smith and Blackler ……… 5280

These Tenders have been rejected as excessive, and the work is open at the Provincial Engineer’s Estimate, viz., £3851.

  1. LINCOLN ROAD—
    Smith and Blackler, at 60s … £930

This Tender has been rejected as excessive, and the work is open at the Provincial Engineer’s Estimate, viz., £782 10s.

  1. METALLING NORTH ROAD—
    Woodman and Wright …… £2030

This Tender has been rejected as excessive, and the work is open at the Provincial Engineer’s Estimate, viz., £915.

  1. PAPANUI DRAINAGE, East Branch—
    Nunwick ………………… £320
    N. Sellars ……………… 275

These Tenders have been rejected as excessive, and the work is open at the Provincial Engineer’s Estimate, viz., £150.

  1. PAPANUI MAIN DRAIN—
    N. Sellars ……………… £496 4 6
    H. Nunwick ……………… 350 0 0
    J. Pratt ………………… 475 0 0

The Tender of H. Nunwick is accepted.

  1. RANGIORA DRAIN—
    J. Pratt, £8 10s. per chain.

The Tender of Joseph Stanton and John Wright is accepted.
