All Public Notifications which appear in this Gazette, with any Official Signature, are to be considered as Official Communications made to those persons to whom they may relate, and are to be obeyed accordingly.

PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS, in accordance with Clause 3 of "The Municipal Council Ordinance, Sess. XIV., No. 2," a petition, praying for the Town of Lyttelton and its suburbs to be proclaimed a Municipal District, from the residents and householders in Lyttelton, was published in the "Provincial Government Gazette" of the 3rd of October, 1861, vol. 8, No. 25, and no counter petition has been received since the date of such publication: Now therefore I, William Sefton Moorhouse, Superintendent of the Province of Canterbury, in pursuance of the powers vested in me in that behalf, do hereby, with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Province, declare the district of Lyttelton to be a Municipal District within the meaning of the said Ordinance, and that the boundaries of the said district shall be as follows, that is to say:β€”

The said district shall be bounded on the

NORTH
By the ridge of hills lying on the north side of Lyttelton; on the

EAST
By the spur of the hill running down to the sea, immediately on the east side of Gollan's Bay; on the

SOUTH
By the sea; and on the

WEST
By the eastern boundary of the Native Reserve at Rapaki :

and that the name and style of the Municipal Council of such District as a Body Corporate, shall be the "Lyttelton Municipal Council."

Given under my hand, at Christchurch, this Tenth day of December, in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Sixty-one.

HIS Honor the Superintendent directs it to be notified that in accordance with the 27th clause of the Constitution Act, he has assented, on behalf of His Excellency the Governor, to the "Third English Agents Ordinance," and "The Sheep Ordinance Amendment Ordinance," passed by the Provincial Council of Canterbury.
