HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to appoint
THOMAS WILLIAMSON HALL, ESQ.,
to be Returning Officer for the Election of Members of the Provincial Council of Canterbury for the District of Timaru.

ELECTION NOTICE.
ELECTORAL DISTRICT OF HEATHCOTE.
IN pursuance of the provisions of an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand, entitled "The Regulation of Elections Act, 1858," and of another Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand, entitled "The Provincial Elections Act, 1858, I, HENRY GODFREY GOULAND, Returning Officer for the Electoral District of Heathcote, do hereby give notice, that by virtue of a Writ bearing date the 21st day of July, 1861, issued under the hand of His Excellency the Governor of New Zealand, an Election will be held for the Return of four qualified persons, to serve as Members of the Provincial Council, for the said Electoral District; and that the Nomination of Candidates will take place at Mr. Webb's Store, Christchurch Quay, on Monday, the 2nd day of September, 1861, at Noon; and that the Poll (if necessary) will be taken on TUESDAY, the 3rd day of September, 1861.
The following places are Polling places for the Electoral District of Heathcote:β
Mr. Webb's Store, Christchurch Quay.
The School-house, Lincoln Road.

PORT VICTORIA.
IN pursuance of the provisions of an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand, entitled "The Regulation of Elections Act, 1858," and of another Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand, entitled "The Provincial Elections Act, 1858," I HENRY GODFREY GOULAND, Returning Officer for the Electoral District of Port Victoria, do hereby give notice, that by virtue of a Writ bearing date the 31st day of July, 1861, issued under the hand of His Excellency the Governor of New Zealand, an Election will be held for the Return of Two qualified persons, to serve as Members of the Provincial Council, for the said Electoral District; and that the Nomination of Candidates will take place at the Resident Magistrate's Court-house, Lyttelton, on Monday, the 26th day of August, 1861, at Noon; and that the Poll (if necessary) will be taken on THURSDAY, the 29th day of August, 1861.
The following places are Polling places for the Electoral District of Port Victoria:β
