To erect and maintain a flag-pole, 40 feet in height, and keep a sufficiently large flag flying thereon daily, from sunrise to sunset. The pole to be erected on the Terrace immediately above the house so as to indicate the fording-place to persons arriving from the northward. Officers of the Supreme Court, Magistrates, and Police Constables on duty, and prisoners to be ferried free of charge. To afford every assistance in his power in directing strangers to a safe fording across the river.

- To keep at all times a safe ferry boat (punt) in good working order, and ready for conveyance of passengers across the Waitangi at all reasonable times between the hours of sunrise and sunset. The fare for passengers, stock, sheep, drays, horses, &c., to be at double the rates charged at Dunford’s Ferry on the Rakaia, subject to revision at the next Annual Licensing Meeting. Officers of the Supreme Court, Magistrates, and Police Constables on duty, and prisoners to be ferried free of charge.
