the General Assembly, intituled "An Act
to make provision for the performance of
the duties of the Superintendent during the
temporary absence of any such Superintendent, and during vacancies in the office." It
is enacted inter alia that it shall be lawful
for the Superintendent of any province, by
proclamation to be published in the Government Gazette of such province, to appoint
such person as he may think fit, being a
registered elector of such province, to be his
deputy. Now, therefore, I, William Sefton
Moorhouse, the Superintendent of the Province of Canterbury, in the said colony, in
pursuance of the powers and authority in
me vested by the said in part recited Act,
do hereby appoint

CHARLES BOWEN, ESQUIRE,
being a registered elector of the said province, to be Deputy Superintendent.

the public seal of the said province
this Thirteenth day of July, one
thousand eight hundred and sixty.

PUBLIC NOTICE.

Provincial Secretary’s Office,
Christchurch, July 12, 1860.

THE Provincial Government are prepared
to receive tenders for the leasing of
the portion of Hagley Park, lying between
the Lincoln Road, the Riccarton Road,
from the plantation to the creek, and the
creek up to Mr. Washborne’s boundary, for
a period not exceeding seven years.

All applications must be made to the
Provincial Secretary’s Office, Christchurch,
where further particulars can be obtained.
Tenders must be sent in on or before
Tuesday, the 31st July next, at Noon.

ELECTION NOTICE.

ELECTORAL DISTRICT OF THE
TOWN OF CHRISTCHURCH.

In pursuance of the provisions of an Act
of the General Assembly of New
Zealand, intituled "The Regulation of Elections Act, 1858," I, Thomas William Maude,
Returning Officer for the Electoral District
of the Town of Christchurch, do hereby give
notice that, by virtue of a writ, bearing date
the eleventh day of July, 1860, issued under
the hand of his Honor the Superintendent
of the Province of Canterbury, an election
will be held for the return of a qualified
person to serve as a member of the Provincial Council for the said electoral district;
and that the nomination of candidates will
take place at the Town Hall, Christchurch,
on Wednesday, the Twenty-fifth day of
July, 1860, at noon, and that the poll (if
necessary) will be taken on Thursday, the
Twenty-sixth day of July, 1860.\n

Act, 1858," I, Bellfield Woollcombe, Returning Officer for the Electoral District of
Timaru, do hereby give notice, that by virtue
of a writ, bearing date the Twenty-sixth day
of June, 1860, issued under the hand of his
Honor the Superintendent of the Province
of Canterbury, an election will be held for
the return of a qualified person to serve as a
member of the Provincial Council for the
said electoral district, and that the nomination of candidates will take place at the
Resident Magistrate’s Office, at Timaru, on
Tuesday, the Seventh day of August, 1860,
and that the poll (if necessary) will be taken
on Thursday, the Ninth day of August,
1860.

has been opened on the South Bank of the
River Waimakariri, in the house and premises lately occupied by Dugald McFarlane, Esq., and that Charles White, the
present occupier thereof has received a
Conditional License under the provisions of
the "Public House Ordinance," for the said
house and premises, and in accordance with
the conditions of his license, has been sworn
in to act as a special constable.
