purpose" of regulating the Slaughtering of Cattle in certain Districts. And whereas by an Ordinance of the Superintendent and Provincial Council of the Province of Canterbury entitled "The Empowering Ordinance, Sess. II, No. 2," the powers conferred on the Governor of New Zealand by the above recited Ordinance were within the limits of the Province of Canterbury conferred on the Superintendent of the said province.
Now, therefore, I, William Sefton Moorhouse, the Superintendent of the said Province of Canterbury, in pursuance of the powers vested in me by the above recited Ordinances, and of all other powers and authorities in any wise enabling me in this behalf, do hereby proclaim and declare that from and after the 30th day of April, 1859, the "Ordinance for regulating the Slaughtering of Cattle in certain places" and the provisions thereof shall come into operation and be in force within the limits of the Town of Akaroa, as the same is defined in a certain proclamation of the Superintendent of the said Province of Canterbury, bearing date the 1st day of May, 1856, and marked as such town on the map of the town and suburbs of Akaroa, marked A 3, signed by the Chief Surveyor, and deposited in the Land Office, at Christchurch.
And I do further proclaim and declare that the said Ordinance for regulating the Slaughtering of Cattle in certain places and the provisions thereof shall, from and after the said 30th day of April, 1859, come into operation, and be in force within the limits of the Town of Kaiapoi, as the same is defined in the "Kaiapoi Town Ordinance, Sess. VIII., No. 7," of the Superintendent and Provincial Council of the said Province of Canterbury, and numbered and marked MD 14 on the maps, setting out and describing the Mandeville District of the Province of Canterbury, in the Land Office, Christchurch.

PROCLAMATION.
I, WILLIAM SEFTON MOORHOUSE, Superintendent of the Province of Canterbury, do hereby, in pursuance of the powers vested in me in that behalf by the regulations for the sale, letting, and occupation of the Waste Lands of the Crown, proclaim and declare that the lands hereinafter described shall be reserved until the next session of the Provincial Council, that is to say, Eighty (80) Acres at Harewood Forest, commencing at a point 10 chains along the edge of Harewood Forest from a creek running into the Eyre river, between Trig poles O 29 and O 30, thence westerly 20 chains and back northerly 40 chains into the bush, to be reserved for the preservation and sale of the timber thereon.
