Christchurch, 11th February, 1859.
His Honor the Superintendent directs it to be notified for public information, that in pursuance of the powers vested in him by the Waste Lands Regulations, now in force within the Province of Canterbury, he has made the following reserves of land temporarily, until the next Session of the Provincial Council:—
Six hundred and forty acres, more or less, bounded on the North West by section 997, Clifford’s land and Rhodes’ land; on the North East by a road; and on the South East and South West on each side of the present track, to include 640 acres, for a Township at Waimata-mata.
Five acres at the South Western corner of section 965, being bounded on the Eastward by section 965, about 11 chains; on the South by the old road about 9 chains; and on the North West by section 1701, about 18 chains; for a Public Cemetery at Timaru.
Also, Town Sections at Timaru, Nos. 23 and 24, for Provincial Government Buildings.
Also, at Waimata-mata Bush, the following reserves for the preservation of timber thereon:—
Seventy-five acres, more or less, bounded on the North West by a road; on the South East by section 1096; and on the South West by the River. And seventy-five acres, more or less, bounded on the North East by the River; on the South East by Rhodes’ land; and on the South West to the extent of seventy-five acres.
Also, five acres, more or less, situated at Okain’s Bay; bounded on the South East by the Main-road; on the North East by a road, a distance of 10 chains; on the South West by section 827, a distance of 10 chains; and on the North West by waste land, 5 chains; for a Public Cemetery.
Also, two acres, one rood, more or less, situate at Okain’s Bay; bounded on the South East by the Main Road, and a small Creek; on the South West by the road, one chain wide, along the bank of the River; and on the North East by a road, a distance of 3 chains; for a reserve for the Church of England.
Also, three acres, more or less, situate at Okain’s Bay; bounded on the North East by section 827, a distance of 5 chains; on the South East by a main road, a distance of 1½ chains; on the South West by a road a distance of 3 chains; and on the North West by the road, one chain wide, along the bank of the River; to be reserved for the use of the Provincial Government, and other public purposes.
Also, ten acres, more or less, situate on the Southern headland of Wainui Bay, Akaroa, known as Cape Three Points; to be reserved for a Pilot Station and Ferry House.

NOTICE TO MARINERS.
PENCARROW LIGHTHOUSE.

Wellington, 26th January, 1859.
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that on and after the first day of September next, the Light exhibited since the first day of January last, on Pencarrow Head, at the entrance of Port Nicholson, Wellington, Cook’s Strait, New Zealand, will be a fixed Light, and not subject to eclipses at intervals of two minutes, as described in the following notice bearing date the 7th December, 1858.

NOTICE TO MARINERS.

Wellington, 7th December, 1858.
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that on and after the first day of January next, a new light will be exhibited on Pencarrow Head at the entrance of Port Nicholson (Wellington), Cook’s Strait, New Zealand.
The new Light will be of the second order (Catadioptric system), with eclipses at intervals of two minutes; it will be 420 feet above high water mark, and visible in ordinary weather at a distance of thirty English miles.
The following are the magnetic bearings and distances of the site of the new Light-house:—
From Baring Head, N.W. by N., 9¼ miles.
From Sinclair Head, E. by N. ½ N., 6½ miles.
From Outer Rock of Barrett’s Reef, S.E. by E. 1 mile.
From Steeple Rock, S.S.E., 2 miles.
From Cape Campbell, N.N.E. ½ E., 96 miles.
The Lighthouse is in Latitude 41° 22' 0” S. Longitude 174° 51' 15” E.
