Public Notice.

Akaroa : Province of Canterbury to
Wit.

WHEREAS a Writ under the hand
of William Sefton Moorhouse,
Esq., Superintendent of the said Pro-
vince, bearing date the eighth day of
May, in the year of our Lord one thou-
sand eight hundred and fifty-eight, hath
been directed to me, John Watson,
Esq., as Returning Officer for the
Akaroa District, in the said Province,
requiring and commanding me to cause
to be elected by and from the voters
duly qualified for that purpose, freely
and indifferently, and in manner and
form by law prescribed, one person to
serve as a member of the Provincial
Council for the Akaroa District, in
place of Thomas Smith Duncan, Esq.,
resigned. Now, therefore, I, the said
John Watson, Esq., Returning Officer
for the Akaroa District, do hereby, in
pursuance of the said recited Writ, give
notice that a public meeting of the
electors of the Akaroa District will
be holden at the Court House, in
the Town of Akaroa, on Thursday,
the tenth day of June next, at noon,
for the purpose of nominating one per-
son to serve as a member of the Pro-
vincial Council, for the Akaroa District,
and in the event of a poll being de-
manded for the candidates or any of
them, such polling shall take place on
Friday, the eleventh day of June next,
in the Court House at Akaroa, in the
School House at Pigeon Bay, and in
the School House at Okain\'s Bay.

The voting to commence at any time
after nine o\'clock, a.m. of the said day,
and to close at four o\'clock p.m., of the
said day.
