Christchurch, Sept. 24, 1856.

WHEREAS by an Ordinance passed by the Superintendent and Provincial Council entitled “the Executive Government Ordinance, Session I, No. 3.” It is enacted that “it shall be lawful for the Superintendent, with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, from time to time to make Regulations for the convenient management and carrying on of the business of the Executive Council, and of the offices of Government ; and from time to time, with such advice as aforesaid, to alter or rescind such regulations or any of them, to make others in their stead ; and all such Regulations being published in the Provincial Government Gazette, shall thereupon become binding on all persons whom they may concern :”

His Honor the Superintendent directs it to be notified that he has this day with the advice and consent of the Executive Council made and issued the following additional Regulations for the management of the offices of Government :

DEPOSIT LAND ACCOUNT.

(a.) The Provincial Treasurer shall receive all sums of money to be paid under the Waste Lands Regulations as “deposits” for land applied for; or “deposits” for the stocking of runs applied for, and shall pay them into the Union Bank of Australia to a separate account, to be called the “Deposit Land Account.”

(b.) The Provincial Treasurer shall repay such deposits to persons entitled to repayment thereof only upon the order in writing of the Waste Lands Board in that behalf.

(c.) The Provincial Treasurer shall upon every sitting of the Waste Lands Board, and in obedience to an order of the Board to that effect, pay into the Provincial Chest out of the Deposit Land Account, all sums which shall have become Provincial Revenue, either by the completion of purchases or by the forfeiture of deposits, as the case may be.

NOTICE.

Province of Canterbury to wit :

WHEREAS a Writ under the hand of James Edward Fitz Gerald, Esq., Superintendent of the said Province, bearing date the 25th day of September, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty-six, hath been directed to me, Charles Christopher Bowen, Esq., as Returning Officer for the Town of Christchurch in the said Province, requiring and commanding me to cause to be elected by and from amongst the voters duly qualified for that purpose, freely and indifferently, and in form and manner by law prescribed, One Person to serve as a member of the Provincial Council for the Town of Christchurch, in the place of Charles Berjew Fooks, Esq., resigned ; NOW therefore, I, the said Charles Christopher Bowen, Esq., Returning Officer for the Town of Christchurch, do hereby in pursuance of the said recited writ, give notice that a public meeting of the electors of the Town of Christchurch, will be held at the offices of the Provincial Government, in the Town of Christchurch, on Monday, the 13th day of October next, at noon, for the purpose of nominating one person to serve as a member of the Provincial Council, for the Town of Christchurch ; and in the event of a poll being demanded for the candidates or any of them, such polling shall take place on Wednesday, the 15th day of October next, in the lobby of the Provincial Council Chamber, at Christchurch. The voting to commence at any time after nine o’clock a.m., of the said day, and to close at four o’clock p.m. of the same day.

NOTICE is hereby given that from and after the first day of October next, the Waste Lands Board will sit at the Land Office at Christchurch on Monday and Thursday in each week, at 12 o’clock at noon, instead of on Tuesdays and Fridays as heretofore.

THE BUILDING situated on Norwich Quay, Lyttelton, and now in the occupation of Mr. Frederick Mason, has been approved as a temporary warehouse for the securing of Goods under Bond for the payment of Duties, according to the provisions of the Customs Ordinance, No. 3, Session I, 1841.
