THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 1856.
PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS, I James Edward Fitz Gerald, Superintendent of the Province of Canterbury, did on the 23rd day of May last past prorogue the Provincial Council of the said Province till the third day of March next, and the said Council did stand prorogued accordingly:—And whereas it is deemed expedient that the said Provincial Council should meet before the said 3rd of March:—Now, therefore, I, James Edward Fitz Gerald, in pursuance of the powers vested in me in that behalf, do hereby summon the said Provincial Council to meet for the despatch of business in the Council Chamber, at Christchurch, on Thursday the sixteenth day of October next, at the hour of Four o’clock in the afternoon.
Given under my hand, this twentieth day of September, one thousand eight hundred and fifty-six, and sealed with the Public Seal of the Province.

HIS HONOR THE SUPERINTENDENT directs the following appointments to be notified for public information:—
William Guise Brittan, Esq., to be the Chief Commissioner of the Waste Lands’ Board, in the place of Joseph Brittan, Esq., resigned.
Joseph Brittan, Esq., the Provincial Secretary, to be a Commissioner of the Waste Lands’ Board.
Charles Christopher Bowen, Esq., the Provincial Treasurer, to be a Commissioner of the Waste Lands Board and to be Treasurer of the same, in the place of William Guise Brittan, Esq., removed to the office of Chief Commissioner of the Waste Lands Board.
William Guise Brittan, Esq., Resident Magistrate within the Province of Canterbury.
Charles Berjew Fooks, Esq., to be Secretary to the Waste Lands Board.
Charles Berjew Fooks, Esq., to be Clerk to the Bench at Christchurch.
The above appointments severally to bear date on the 30th instant.
