N O T I C E.

Province of Canterbury to Wit :β€”

WHEREAS a writ under the hand of James Edward Fitz Gerald, Esq., Superintendent of the said Province bearing date the 12th day of February, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty five, hath been directed to me, Charles Simeon, Esq., as returning-officer for the town of Christchurch, in the said Province, requiring and commanding me to cause to be elected by and from the voters duly qualified for that purpose freely and indifferently, and in manner and form by law prescribed, One Person to serve as a member of the Provincial Council for the town of Christchurch, in place of Thomas Cass, Esq., resigned; Now therefore I, the said Charles Simeon, Esq., returning-officer for the town of Christchurch, do hereby in pursuance of the said recited writ, give notice, that a public meeting of the electors of the town of Christchurch will be held in the Market Place in the town of Christchurch, on Thursday, the 8th day of March next, at noon, for the purpose of nominating one person to serve as a member of the Provincial Council for the town of Christchurch : and in the event of a poll being demanded for the candidates or any of them, such polling shall take place on Friday, the 9th day of March next; in the lobby of the Provincial Council Chamber at Christchurch. The voting to commence at any time after 9 o'clock a.m., of the said day, and to close at four o'clock p.m., of the same day.
